Fireflies or lightning bugs make light within their bodies. This process is called bioluminescence and is shared by many other organisms,
mostly sea-living or marine organisms. Fireflies light up to attract a mate. To do this, the fireflies contain specialized cells in their
abdomen that make light.
Prabalgad is situated on northeast side of Panvel, on Mumbai-Pune road. One can see it from express highway a V-Shaped one. The Left one is Kalwantin Durg & right side is Prabalgad. It is located on a plateau very close to Matheran. It was known as Muranjan until it was taken over and renamed by the Maratha forces under Shivaji’s rule.
There is a dense forest on the way till the top of fort Prabal. Historical references indicate that Freedom fighter Umaji Naik made a stay here in 1826.
The fort top commands an excellent view of the surroundings with Kalavantin in the front. Matheran, Chanderi, Shrimallang, Irshal Karnala, Manikgad, etc can be easily identified.

Meeting Point for Mumbai and Pune People: Panvel Railway Station at 06:15 pm
From here we will move ahead to Thakurwadi by Private vehicle.
Reach Base Village by 07.00 pm
Introduction Round and Start Our Trek at 07.15 pm
Reach Prabal Machi by 8.30 pm
Dinner at Prabal Machi by 9.00 pm
Post Dinner walk at Machi and spotting Fireflies
Rest for the day
Day 1: Sunday, 28th May 17
Wake up call at 7:00 am
Post Breakfast starts descend by 8:30 am
Start our back journey by Private vehicle.
Reach Panvel by 11.00 am. (approximately)

A haversack to put in all the things to be carried….so that one has ones hands free while trekking.

It is most essential to be fit and fine before heading for trekking. While planning your trekking trip, it is preferable to have a medical fitness check up done. If suffering from any kind of allergy or ailment, do carry proper prescribed medicines to prevent serious health problem including heatstroke, sever headache, cough, dehydration and hypothermia. Participants suffering from chronic conditions like asthma, bronchitis, blood pressure, migraine, diabetes etc should seek their physicians advice before coming.
