Gorakhgad is a fort that can be done easily in a day, both from Mumbai and Pune. Though not famous for any historical events, Gorakhgad attracts trekkers due to its inviting pinnacles, which offer good opportunities for rock-climbing. This region of Gorakhgad and Machchindragad has a dense forest cover.
Fort Gorakhgad is quite small in size. It was having strategic importance during the reign of Shahaji Raje. However, no major battle is recorded to have taken place here. It was used in Shivaji’s era to patrol the nearby region and was used as a stopover station during the journey to Junnar via Naneghat. Though small in size, there is enough availability water and a lot of space for accommodation. The fort gets its name from Saint Gorakhnath, who performed his “Sadhana” in this place.

Start by our private bus towards Gorakhgad
Day 1: Sunday, 18th June 17
Reach base village by 5 am.
Have Breakfast, start ascend and reach the top till 10.00 am.
Explore the fort, start descend.
Lunch at base village and start our back journey.
Reach Dadar by 08.00pm. (approximately)
A bottle of water (atleast 2 Ltrs),
Towel, a napkin, Extra Pair of clothes
Windcheaters, Camera, Cap, etc. (Optional)
A good trekking shoes, extra pair of socks
Some ready to eat food. Plum cakes, Biscuits etc.

A haversack to put in all the things to be carried….so that one has ones hands free while trekking. Pleases do not carry sling bags or Jholas.

It is most essential to be fit and fine before heading for trekking. While planning your trekking trip, it is preferable to have a medical fitness check up done. If suffering from any kind of allergy or ailment, do carry proper prescribed medicines to prevent serious health problem including heatstroke, sever headache, cough, dehydration and hypothermia. Participants suffering from chronic conditions like asthma, bronchitis, blood pressure, migraine, diabetes etc should seek their physicians advice before coming.
